Skill gap analysis: see what you know, and what is missing

Self-ratings and checklists measure confidence. Aynstyn measures understanding: you explain a skill in your own words, and the result shows what you cover, what you miss and how deep it goes.

Run a skill gap analysis

You cannot close a gap you cannot see

Every career move depends on a few skills. Most people have only a rough sense of how strong theirs are, and that sense is usually generous in some places and harsh in others.

Without a clear picture, effort goes to the comfortable topics while the real gaps stay untouched.

Why self-assessment misleads

Recognising a concept is not the same as being able to explain and apply it. Quizzes and self-ratings reward recognition, which is how people come to feel ready without being ready.

A useful gap analysis has to test understanding, and it has to say what to do next.

How Aynstyn analyses a skill

The analysis is the A in MAPPT, and it feeds every move after it.

  1. Mindset: Pick one skill that matters to your next step. A focused question gets a useful answer.
  2. Analyze: Explain what you know by text or voice. The result shows covered and missing topics, clarity and depth scores, level of thinking, confidence against accuracy and a Competence Index. Concepts you use correctly without naming them still count.
  3. Prepare: Topics under 60% coverage are marked as gaps. Turn them into a course, or start a goal or a playbook.
  4. Practice: The result recommends one practice session on one gap. Finish it and the session is scored on that gap.
  5. Test: Practice and two-minute correction checks update the same result: a session scored 70 or more crosses the gap off, and the next one is recommended.

What the analysis shows you

  • A topic-by-topic map: What you cover and what you miss, not just one overall score.
  • Depth, not just coverage: Clarity, depth and level-of-thinking scores for what you do cover.
  • A Competence Index: One number for how close you are to a clear, joined-up understanding.
  • The next step: A recommended practice session on one gap, ready to start.

Frequently asked questions

How do I identify my skill gaps?

Explain the skill in your own words, then compare that explanation with what a full understanding covers. Aynstyn makes the comparison for you: it lists covered and missing topics and scores clarity and depth, so the gaps are specific rather than a general feeling.

What does a skill gap analysis on Aynstyn include?

An overall score, clarity and depth scores, covered and missing topics, topic coverage, level of thinking, confidence against accuracy, a Competence Index and personalised feedback, with gaps marked where coverage is under 60%.

Can I do the analysis by voice?

Yes. Speak your explanation and it is transcribed and scored through the same pipeline as a written one.

What happens after the analysis?

The result recommends a practice session on one gap. Practice and correction checks update the same result, so you can watch the gap close without taking a second assessment. You can also turn the gaps into a course, a goal or a playbook.
